How HPL Technology Works
HPL technology provides relaively fast results that improve with every use.
Every time the device flashes, it sends a short but very intense pulse of light energy into the skin.
This has no effect on lighter pigmented skin. But in the case of the darker pigment of hair, the light energy is instantly transformed into short but intense heat.
Hair follicles become destroyed when they absorb the heat. While heated, the hair scars the
hair growth cells in the neighboring shaft, destroying them for good.
This means that hair follicles disabled by HPL will never be able to grow hair again!
In order to achieve the best results, it’s critical that HPL energy has an unobstructed path to the hair follicles that are positioned in the skin.
Hair that grows above the skin surface can prevent the light pulses from targeting hair follicles.
That’s why it is crucial that you shave before each session for maximum effectiveness.
Here is another thing to keep in mind.
HPL can only affect the hairs that are inside the hair shafts when you are using the machine. But only about 15 percent of your hair is actively growing inside the shafts at any given time.
It’s only this hair whose growth is stopped by each pulse.
Now you can understand why you should wait 2 to 4 weeks between treatments – to let more
hair come back to its active growing phase.
This makes each additional treatment effective.
That’s why you will need between six and eight treatments, every two to four weeks, to knock out most of hair shafts, resulting in hair-free skin.
However, there are some dormant hair cells found beneath the skin surface that have never grown before. They have the potential to grow hair.
